Darkness Looms artwork is a mixed media landscape painting built around dramatic contrasts of light and shadow. A glowing yellow horizon sits behind a dense foreground of dark, expressive lines. Above it, the sky gradually shifts into deeper tones, giving the scene a sense of tension and approaching change. I wanted the light to feel almost caught between the landscape and the darkness moving in above it. The loose black lines create a wild, overgrown foreground, while the open space behind them keeps the painting from feeling too heavy. There’s a little uncertainty in the scene, which is part of what I like about it.
