Shark Drawing focuses on the animal at its most dramatic, using deep blacks and detailed shading to give the image its intensity. The composition brings the shark close to the viewer. Its open mouth becomes the focal point, surrounded by a dark background that strips away almost everything else. What I like about this piece is how much of the image is created through contrast. The lighter areas define the shape of the shark, while much of its body disappears into the darkness. The teeth and mouth carry the finest detail. From there, the drawing gradually becomes softer and less defined toward the edges.
