Padron & Laphroaig Painting is an acrylic still life that brings together two recognizable subjects: a Padron cigar and a bottle of Laphroaig whisky. Set against a dark background, the warm tones of the cigar and green glass of the bottle immediately become the focus. I wanted to keep the composition simple and let the two objects carry the piece. Small bursts of colour and texture around them loosen up the darker background. They also give the painting a more expressive feel while keeping the subjects recognizable.
