Skins & Cymbals
Skins & Cymbals Artwork is a mixed media artwork inspired by the shapes, surfaces and details of a drum kit. Cymbals, drums and hardware overlap across the composition, creating a view that feels almost as rhythmic as the instrument itself. I wanted to focus on more than simply recreating a drum set. The different surfaces gave me a chance to play with texture, scale and contrast. Warm metallic tones move against whites, deep reds and a cooler background. The layered materials also give the piece a tactile quality that changes as you look across it.

Skins & Cymbals Artwork is part of my music paintings, where instruments and music culture become the starting point for my artwork. The original Skins & Cymbals painting is currently available if you’d like to see purchasing information and artwork details. You can also explore Gibson Les Paul, another music-inspired piece where the instrument itself becomes the centre of the composition.
