Skins & Cymbals is an original mixed media painting inspired by the shapes, surfaces and arrangement of a drum kit. I built the composition around overlapping drums and cymbals, using their circular forms to move the eye across the canvas. Gold, deep red, black and white define the individual instruments, while layers of texture give the cymbals and drum skins their own character. I wanted the piece to feel connected to music without showing a musician, focusing instead on the instruments and the visual rhythm they create together.
