Joey Ramone is an original mixed media painting inspired by Joey Ramone and the visual history surrounding the Ramones. I placed his portrait at the centre of the piece, surrounded by layers of photographs, posters, album imagery and references to the band. The collage-like background is deliberately dense, with pieces of Ramones history appearing throughout the composition. Against it, the black leather jacket, microphone and monochromatic portrait bring Joey forward while still keeping him connected to all of the imagery behind him.
